Similar to the three-faced style, this mask features a unique double-face design that embodies themes of duality, balance, and expanded perception. The abstract, mirrored faces symbolize contrasting aspects of existence, such as the seen versus the unseen, the physical versus the spiritual, and the human versus the animal. The upward extensions at the top, resembling horns or ears, evoke a hybrid creature or spirit, further enhancing the mask’s mystical presence.
This one of a kind mask was handcrafted by refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, working in Kenya at the Gikomba Wood Carving Cooperative.
