Winding River Teak Salad Servers

Swahili Modern

  • With wavy handles reminiscent of a winding river, these salad servers have been carved utilizing Zambezi teak . Teak has a lovely dark tone and intricate grain, so a light coating of oil highlights the natural beauty of these handmade serving pieces.

Measures 14.5"L x 2.75"W x 0.75"T. Due to the handcrafted nature of this item, slight variation may occur. For best care, hand wash and occasionally rub with food safe oil.

  • These gentlemen work from a small thatched roof hut workshop inside a historic village in Lusaka, Zambia. Built in the 1930s and 40s as what the Zambian government considered appropriate housing for single male workers, a few thatched huts, or rondavels, have been restored to serve as artisan workshops. Tourists and locals visit Kabwata Cultural Village for locally-crafted gifts and souvenirs, as well as traditional performances of song and dance. The men who comprise the small group known as “Carvers of Kabwata Cultural Village” carve beautiful wooden bowls from muzumina and teak. The carvers are proud to now export their handcrafted serving pieces to the United States..
