A classic form of African jewelry, these necklace and bracelet sets are handmade by the artisans of African Trade Beads in South Africa.
The beads are crafted using a variety of materials, including recycled glass, resin, brass, and cow bone. Each set is one-of-a-kind and fair trade.
African trade beads were brought to West Africa over 500 years ago by Arab traders. The beads were used as a form of currency (hence the name "trade beads"). The most decorative beads were produced by creating flowers or stripes from glass canes, that were then cut and moulded onto a core of solid color.
