Standing at 4' tall, these Ghanaian talking drums are purchased by both art collectors and musicians. Each one-of-a-kind drums is hand-carved from a single piece of mahogany, with goat leather stretched across the top.
The talking drum is one of the oldest African instruments and was used to send messages to neighboring villages. Different sized drums could mimic the tone, rhythm, intonation, and stress of human speech. Today, talking drums are highly valued among musicians, including King Crimson, Tom Waits, Sikiru Adepoju, and Erykah Badu.
Each 48" x 16" drum includes a traditional drum stick and is shipped on a pallet. Fair trade.
