These handwoven African baskets are topped with a lid made from thick cow leather. Each basket also includes a leather rim, top pull ring, and side handles.
The baskets are handmade by rural Wolof women in the West African nation of Senegal were designed by our team in Eugene, OR.

Since 2008, Swahili has worked with a group of talented Wolof weavers in remote Senegal to provide hampers and baskets woven from salvaged plastic strips and cattail stalks to stores around the world, including West Elm, Land of Nod, The Company Store, Garnet Hill and Anthropologie. Working together with the Peace Corps, Swahili and over 120 Wolof women prove that cooperative, home-based craft export is an proven way for rural women to earn the fair trade incomes that build healthy communities.
