Ghanaian Pear Bottom Market Basket in Assorted Colors

Swahili Modern

  • These stylish bolga baskets stand up to years of usage while still remaining beautiful. The baskets are handwoven in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana using tough elephant grass, then finished with soft leather around the handle. A pear-shaped bottom makes the baskets extra spacious.

Measures 14.5"D x 12"T (17" to top of handle). Due to the handmade quality, these baskets are artisan-chose one of a kind and sold singly in an assortment of colors, but we don't think you'll be disappointed by what you receive.

  • The weaving of "market baskets" in Ghana has been a traditional skill for many generations. Because the soil around Bolgatanga is not fertile enough to sustain agriculture, the people of the region rely upon handicraft products to supplement their income. The Bolga baskets sold by Swahili Modern are Fair Trade and are a reliable source of income for women weavers and their families.
