Water Spirit Fish Black Springstone Sculpture

  • Carved from solid black springstone, this water spirit fish signifies a njuzu [water spirit], an important part of Shona mythology. Water spirits are supposed to live in deep lakes and rivers and may lure the unwary person into the water. Those who return from this experience are likely to become a n’anga [witch doctor], as they have traveled between the physical and spiritual worlds.

    Only 1 (one) sculpture available. Measures 16.5"L x 3.25"W x 8"T.

  • Zimbabwean sculptors work with springstone, which is a prized dark stone that polishes to a high shine because of its density. Most springstone is sustainably sourced and is mined on communal lands for the purpose of sculpting.
