This gorgeous indigo blanket is handmade using natural dyes in Burkina Faso. The blanket features braided fringe at each end and measures 45"W x 62"L.
The blankets are dyed with indigo powder extracted from the leaves of the indigofera tinctoria plant. Today, the use of synthetic indigo dye is predominant, but pockets of artisans still process the plant to create this prized traditional cloth.
For best care, hand-wash in cool water and air dry. Designs and sizing may vary slightly.
Artisans in Burkina Faso specialize in the making of hand-dyed indigo textiles. Production of these textiles is a multiple stage process which involves the participation of children, men and women of the same clan. The process includes gathering and preparing the local cotton, weaving the basic cloth, processing the indigofera tinctoria plant, and dyeing the fabric using a traditional resist-dye method.
