Handwoven in the West African nation of Senegal, this set of colorful storage containers brings incredible artisan craftsmanship into your living space, along with an ocean beach feel. The lidded tops on these handwoven baskets keep clutter out of sight and out of mind – but don't let that stop you from keeping the baskets open to display your towels or keep other essentials within easy reach.
Originally created with an association of more than 100 rural Wolof women and the Peace Corps in an effort to improve quality of life in Senegal, the baskets are tightly woven and will last for years to come with little to no maintenance.
Size: [Small] 13"D x 7"T [Large] 16"D x 9"T; size and colors may vary slightly due to the handmade nature of these baskets. Questions about shipping? Visit our Shipping FAQ.
Since 2008, Swahili has worked with a group of talented Wolof weavers in remote Senegal to provide hampers and baskets woven from salvaged plastic strips and cattail stalks to stores around the world. First introduced by the Peace Corps, Swahili and more than 120 Wolof women prove that cooperative, home-based craft export is an excellent way for rural women to earn the fair trade incomes that build healthy communities.
