Proud and graceful, these solid mpingo sculptures pay homage to African women through the medium of Mozambican wood carving.
Each sculpture is carved from mpingo, also known as African blackwood, and uses rough outer bark to provide the illusion of draped fabric. The remaining mpingo is smooth and highly polished. Each woman's face features traditional, hand-carved expressions.
