Zimbabwean Teak Tonga Stools

Swahili Modern

ZIMW1A

  • A traditional seat used during traveling, Tonga stools, carved through the Lupane Women's Center in Zimbabwe from teak, now make lovely display pieces in the home.

    Size: [Short] 5"L x 6"W x 7-8"T;  [Tall] 5"L x 6"W x 9-10"T.

Due to their handcrafted nature, each stool will vary slightly in design and size.

  • Lupane Women’s Centre, a community based organization owned and run by locals who are members, began operating in 1994 and now has a membership of about 4,500 women and a few men throughout the district of Matabeleland North Province in Zimbabwe. It aims at alleviating poverty and the empowerment of women — focusing on training and developmental needs for women and involved in income generation activities such as basketweaving, and business activities that contribute towards the funding of programs. Their proud claim is that the Women’s Centre "is run BY the women of Lupane District FOR the women in the district.”
