These traditional baskets are woven in Senegal using natural grasses and thin plastic strips. Durable and decor-friendly, the baskets provide simple storage in any room of your home.
The baskets are crafted by Wolof craftswomen, who earn sustainable incomes for their families through the baskets' sale. Each basket measures 14"L x 12"W x 4"H and is fair trade.
Since 2008, Swahili has worked with a group of talented Wolof weavers in remote Senegal to provide hampers and baskets woven from salvaged plastic strips and cattail stalks to stores around the world, including West Elm, Land of Nod, The Company Store, Garnet Hill and Anthropologie. Working together with the Peace Corps, Swahili and over 120 Wolof women prove that cooperative, home-based craft export is an proven way for rural women to earn the fair trade incomes that build healthy communities.
