Handcrafted with a sense of ceremony by Kuba women in the Congo, these stunning pillows are created using raffia, which is a natural fabric woven from palm leaf fibers. The raffia is hand-dyed with natural plant dyes and cut into strips. Artisans then free-hand embroider each pillow's front with geometric patterns and shapes from the Congo's traditional garb.
The pillows are backed with earth-colored cotton and make a beautiful accent to your home. No two pillows are the the same, though their color schemes are similar to those pictured.
Sold in assorted sizes.
Marvelous Batik is a workshop in Tanzania that betters the lives of at-risk young women by teaching them new skills, helping them to be self-sustaining, and providing basic necessities. Run by a compassionate woman named Flotea Masawe, the cooperative is nationally recognized for their production of batik and embroidered cotton textiles. Pillows, table runners, duvet covers, bags, and curtain panels are just a few of the items currently exported by this talented group of women.
